Taj Cape Town, South Africa

Client: Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces

Project: TaJ Cape Town

Launch: March 2010

The Taj Cape Town occupies two historic buildings – the South African Reserve Bank and the Board of Executors - and a new 17-storey wing has been added with walk out balconies and panoramic views over the Mother City. The Taj Cape Town offers guests old-world quality complemented by modern features and luxury amenities.

JPA undertook the full scope interior design of the Standard Suites, Deluxe Suites and Presidential Suites; the standard guest rooms; all public areas including the main lobby; three retaurants; lobby bar and cigar bar;  the business centre and conference rooms; retail shops; club lounge and lobby lounge.

The philosophy behind the interior transformation was to create within this strong, masculine architecture an interior of refinement and elegance, whilst infusing subtle references to the heritage of its Indian custodian. The aim was to create a guests’ experience that is both unique and yet which fits in to its surroundings.
