La Residence d'Angkor, Cambodia

Client: Orient Express Hotels & Resorts

Project: La Residénce d’Angkor, Cambodia

Launch: October 2009

La Résidence d’Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap is situated near the Angkor Wat temples, one of the ancient man-made wonders of the world.

The hotel was purchased by Orient-Express Hotels from its previous owners and JPA was commissioned to transform it into an intimate 5 Star luxury boutique hotel. Set in a leafy haven beside the Siem Reap River in the heart of the city, JPA’s brief was to ensure the same international standard of authenticity, design and style found in every Orient-Express property and to incorporate the design influences of traditional Khmer designs and also the colourful colonial heritage of Cambodia.

JPA’s scope of work included eight Bedroom Suites, each with its own terrace and dining facilities; 54 Royal Deluxe Bedrooms; all public areas including the Grand Entrance; a beautiful Khmer-inspired spa and treatment rooms with private gardens; a fine-dining restaurant and cocktail bar; a state-of-the-art fitness centre and a boardroom with full facilities for business meetings; and the re-design of all public areas and landscape design to enhance guests’ experiences during transition through the hotel grounds.

JPA has achieved a sensitive refurbishment which draws on Khmer-influenced patterns, shapes and textures, providing a design aesthetic which mirrors that of the nearby landmark of Angkor Wat and which is sensitive to the local architecture and lush green surroundings.  Materials have been regionally-sourced and the dark wood, stone and slate are an expression of the natural beauty of Cambodia and South-East Asia.
