JPA brought its wealth of experience to the interior design of the hotel and adjoining mall interiors in this mixed-use development located on a prominent site in Putuo, Shanghai’s bustling historic district

Our brief was to create the ultimate destination for the emerging generation of influencers, business professionals, innovators and creative executives by focussing on exceptional F&B experiences, generously appointed guest rooms and suites, advanced technology, business accessibility and extensive meeting and event spaces to enable the hotel to develop into the leading social and business hub in this lively neighbourhood.

The stylish interiors are based on a sophisticated, modern Asian aesthetic with a sense of place instilled through contemporary interpretations of traditional visual devices, forms, patterns, textures, colours and materials that are synonymous with both China and Singapore.

A spectacular double-height, polished timber, curving feature wall unifies the main lobby facilities including the eye-catching reception area and the stylish lobby bar, Flo, which caters for a wide range of casual occasions from informal business meetings to convivial after-work refreshments as well as for those who prefer a degree of privacy. Our concept also shows a dramatic 5,000 square foot displaying 3,000 bottles of fine wine.

Rich bronzes, creams, golds, taupes and warm greys with lustrous, culturally significant accent colours make up the palette

The design and articulation of the 234 cover all-day-dining restaurant, Blu, have been tailored to accommodate both à la carte and buffet service options. The wide range of authentic food and flavours on offer, from local Chinese and Singaporean to Japanese and international, are served from a range of smartly conceived individual stations.

The layout is also informed by Feng Shui principles as are the choices of natural, local materials. This ensures that the guest dining experience is as fulfilling, memorable and harmonious as possible.

Covering an extensive area of 1,100 square metres, the Grand Ballroom and ten multi-purpose function rooms offer advanced event facilities and adaptable configurations which cater for all scales and types of occasions and conferences.

Guests on the Amara Club floors enjoy services and facilities including access to the exclusive Amara Club Lounge

Located on the top floor the lounge enjoys panoramic views over the city and is designed to adapt throughout the course of the day to the contrasting demands of breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. This ensures that privileged guests can relax and delight at any time in comfortable, elegant and appropriately atmospheric surroundings.

With floor to ceiling windows and ranging in floor area from a generous minimum 32 square metres to over 100 square metres, all guest rooms and suites convey a welcoming, soothing ambience with classic modern interiors and a combination of elegant fabric-wrapped and richly veneered wall panelling. This high level of luxury and comfort extends into the bathrooms which are not only sleek and spacious but also well-equipped and user-friendly.

JPA’s designs for the hotel respond to the rapidly changing expectations of the modern domestic and international traveller by combining authenticity, a sense of place and vibrancy with comfort, practicality and seamless technology.
