Belmond Grand Hibernian
Project: Grand Hibernian Train set
Having designed the interiors of many of the world’s most iconic luxury cruise trains over the last 30+ years including the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Eastern and Oriental Express, Belmond Northern Belle, Belmond Royal Scotsman, and Belmond Hiram Bingham trains in Peru, JPA are delighted to announce the latest addition to this part of their portfolio - Belmond Grand Hibernian which will begin running in Ireland in 2016.
JPA’s designs for the new train draw on Ireland’s classical Georgian architecture and its brightly painted towns and villages blended with the country’s unique character and mythology.
The colour schemes throughout are influenced by the flora and fauna of Ireland’s celebrated landscapes and the tartans of the eight Irish counties after which the carriages are named. The tartans are respectfully deconstructed and redistributed through the patterns, painted walls and textures of each cabin; ‘Down’ features shades of oranges and browns; ‘Kerry’ boasts shades of blue and russet; ‘Waterford’ is predominantly green, ‘Leitrim’ has accents of crimson while ‘Fermanagh’ features soft lilac.
The overall design is fresh and contemporary, yet underpinned with tradition mixing romance and heritage with modern touches – an updated interpretation of the elements expected by the discerning passenger.
The train set consists of five sleeper cars (each with four cabins), two dining cars and a bar / observation car which blends the atmosphere and warmth of an Irish saloon with the elegance of country house lounge and features large picture windows through which guests will be able to drink in the stunning scenery of the Atlantic coast and heartlands of the whole island.
